The Real Aruba Truth

A blog dedicated to the destruction of Aruba vacations, tourism, hotels, and attractions, resorts, and cruises to Aruba until Natalee Ann Holloway is found, alive or dead. Period. Aruba is a Third World rathole, not a safe, happy island. Aruba.com and The Official Tourism Website of Aruba LIES. The island is a haven for drug and human trafficking. How You can Help

For a long time now I've seen Natalee supporters asking myself and others, "How can we help? What else is there to do? What can we do?" The truth is, there are a lot of quick, dirty, inexpensive things that everyday Joes and Janes like you and I can do to keep pressure on Aruba until Natalee is found.

* Visit travel and tourism blogs and simply state that because of how Aruban authorities deliberately and continually mismanaged the investigation, possibly beyond recovery, you will never visit Aruba. Its very important when you do post that you make it known who the blame lies on (the MEP and ALE). There are already people doing this on MSN, Yahoo!, and AOL message boards.

Other topics you might want to mention are:
- past corruption (the Caruna-Cuntreras scandal and how organized crime got a toehold in Aruba under- guess whose administration- the MEP's), drug trafficking through the island, concerns of corruption from Dutch officials (like former Dutch Attorney General Arthur Doctors van Leeuwen, who said, "I think we are going to lose it (the drug war) on Aruba" or former Aruban Security Service director Martien ras, who wrote to van Leeuwen suggesting that organized crime had such an influence on Aruban politics that democracy itself was in jeopardy).
- the fact that Aruba has not released complete crime statistics since 1997;
- the many instances of questionable investigative strategies on the ALE's part , beginning with an 11-day lag before arresting the last three people Natalee was known to be with (despite numerous witnesses who named said suspects). It certainly didn't end with that slip-up....
- mention the fact that, despite the many incentives offered by Aruba in a (hopefully futile) effort to recover, Aruba is still one of the most expensive Caribbean destinations for Americans to visit and yet offers nothing unique to tourists;
- mention how current Aruban Prime Minister Nel Oduber bragged about Aruba's political closeness with anti-American dictator Hugo Chavez of Venezuela (incidentally, Venezuela is only about 15 miles from Aruba, and the majority of drugs shipped from Aruba come from there buond for the U.S. and Europe);
- mention past anti - money laundering and anti- drug trafficking treaties between the U.S. under the Clinton administration and Caribbean islands that Aruba did not sign onto;
- if you've been to Aruba in the past and had a bad experience, by all means post those!

There's a lot of really ugly things like that you can post to keep travelers away from Aruba. Just make sure your facts and your sources are straight!

* Buy a 'Boycott Aruba' bumper sticker and display it proudly. cafepress.com has tons of boycott Aruba merchandise.

* For you creative kinds, make a video and tell us why you will not be going to Aruba and who you blame for Natalee's disappearance. Post to youtube.com - its free, and it will show up on Google videos, too. Again, this is a great way for people who have been to Aruba and had a bad experience to help!

* Write your local Congressperson and State Representative and tell them why you are concerned with the investigation, why the government should be doing more to pressure the Netherlands to clean up Aruba's corruption (drug trade, money laundering, and more).

* Write the U.S. State Department and ask them to get involved politically in any way possible. An international lawyer tells me that if the State Department gets at least 5,000 letters from the public expressing concern about the same subject they are required to officially address it with the foreign parties in question.

* Buy a copy of Dave Holloway's book from Amazon.com- they cost less than $12 a copy, and the proceeds go to the Natalee Holloway Foundation, a non-profit organization Dave Holloway founded to help other missing Americans overseas (Federal law prohibits him from using foundation money to look for his own daughter...). Call your local library when you're done and ask if they have a copy. If not...donate yours.

* Send a copy of Dave's book to your local Representative or Congressperson. Ask them to read it and donate it as well.

* Post 'boycott Aruba' flyers around travel agencies and especially around Aruba Tourism Authority field offices in Weehauken NJ, the Woodlands TX, Chicago IL, Ft. Lauderdale FL, and Atlanta GA. Make sure your local laws allow this, but in many places you are allowed to post small flyers in public rights-of-way and public utilities (like light- and telephone poles) without permit- and it is usually illegal for anyone else but city employees to remove them if posted properly!

* Another good way to put those little flyers to use is to leave a few in the magazines you find in the dentist's office, the barbershop / salon, the doctor's office, etc. Target any travel magazines you find especially- and rip out any Aruba ads you find too!

* Send letters to the Dutch Embassy to the U.S. , the Aruba Tourism Authority, and the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association and simply state, "No justice for Natalee = no tourism!" They'll know which Natalee you mean...

* Many people who have been to Aruba looking for Natalee (Dave Holloway, Texas Equusearch members, Art Wood, the late Jamie Skeeters to name a few) have said that the Arubans all seem afraid of something. Hell, even some TV psychic picked that up! So Arubans: if you know something about this case that could solve it, there is a way you can safely tell what you know: write it down or type it out, seal it in a security envelope, and give it to an American tourist (assuming you can find one). Tell them that it can help Natalee's case and ask that they send it to Dave Holloway or America's Most Wanted- not the FBI (they are bound by law to turn it over to the ALE), and certainly not the Aruban authorities of any kind! Then walk away. Quickly.

* Look through magazines, travel blogs, etc. and send anything negative you find about Aruba to lionhunter053005@yahoo.com for rapid redistribution throughout the internet. Make sure you include the exact source, date, and author of the article!

* Leave a prayer request for natalee and her family in your church's offering plate. Some of us believe Natalee may be alive and findable (I am firmly of this opinion, sadly more than her own parents), some believe she is gone and want justice for her and closure for her family. Just pray your heart's wishes for this family.

* Write the major networks (ABC, NBC, FOX, and especially CBS since they hyped Aruba up so much on the 07/12/07 edition of the Early Show). Tell them that they may be sleeping with the Devil but you haven't forgotten Natalee and that they couldn't pay you to go to Aruba! Suggest to them that they concentrate on the many equally charming but safer, less corrupt places like Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Barbados....

* Post business card-sized 'Boycott Aruba' flyers under windshield wipers in parking lots. People do this all the time for comemrcial profit, why not do it for selfless reasons too?

* Buy an Aruba flag. Destroy and desecrate it (don't be unsanitary, though) and mail it to the Aruban government. Let them know why you did it.

* Write to the U.S. businesses that have ventures in Aruba (McDonald's, Holiday Inn, and the supposedly patritotic Wal-Mart to name a few). Tell them that their Aruba branches will not be seeing any of your money- and why.

* Call or send a letter to the ATA or AHATA expressing your displeasure with their government and make sure you tell them why you won't ever set foot in Aruba. Don't e-mail them; deleting an e-mail is easy, but it takes time and costs these people money to talk on the phone or open a letter.

* There are several international pen pal websites out there. Get a pen pal from Aruba, the Netherlands, or Curacao (remember Aruba and Curacao are very close and pretty much the same community). Tell them exactly who you are boycotting Aruba and what us Americans expect if they want us to come back.

* Contact your local VFW Hall and ask if they would pass this list on to their members for anyone who is interested. Veterans of all people should be concerned with corrupt foreign governments and victimized Americans seeking justice.

* If you have a property line that fronts a busy street or highway, post a big 'boycott Aruba' message (if you have a chain-link fence you can easily do this with paper cups). People near airports, cruise ship docks, and theme parks- we really need you for this one!

* Finally, join a group that deals with justice for Americans overseas, traveler safety, victims rights, or the like. Possibilities include the Natalee Holloway Foundation (Dave Holloway's foundation), the International Safe Travels Foundation (Beth Twitty's foundation), the International Cruise Victims, and Texas Equusearch. There's other people to help besides Natalee, after all...

My God. Are you serious? Have you ever looked closely into this material? Aruba is far from a paradise, but all the things you say about the island are more or less true for the USA as well. Should we boycot the USA? Whatever happened to Natalee is bad. But you cannot blame a whole country for one crime, maybe commited by someone from another country.

Open your mind

Chris, that isn't the reason for a boycott. The ONE valid thing that Aruba has said in its own defense is 'a crime like this can happen anywhere'.

The reason for the boycott is because the Aruban government, elected by the Aruban people, is singlehandedly responsible for the fact that Natalee's disappearance remains unsolved. Waiting 11 days to arrest the last three people Natalee was seen with? Please! Inviting the FBI to the island only to make them sit in a hotel room and do nothing, until they left in disgust? Inviting them back just to review tapes of interrogations and allowing them no input until they left in disgust a second time? Claiming that Aruban law prohibited any FBI involvement at all when the truth is the government can grant as much access as they want?

Before you ask me to open my mind, perhaps you should re-read all the lies, bungling, and unkept promises the MEP is responsible for.

One more time, because for some reason people sympathetic to Aruba cannot or will not understand this:

the boycott against the Aruban people is 100% due to the actions of the MEP government they re-relected in the middle of this controversy. The Aruban people are sleeping with the Devil- and the boycott is meant to persuade them to change that.

Here's another idea someone suggested to me: go to your local bookstore (Hasting's, Barnes & Noble, or what have you) and put a 'boycott Aruba-remeber Natalee' note inside the front cover of all the Aruba travel books.

I'm copying and pasting this for 'Jamie', who left this message but also (unwisely I think) included a personal e-mail address. I felt it best to copy/paste the posted message sans e-mail for this person's protection.

" Hi Erica...
I bought your song, Natalee's Song a while back now. It must have been 2 yrs. ago when I started writing to Beth when all this happened. I just want to say thank you for all you are posting here. I pray daily for Natalee and Beth and their family. If you ever join MySpace and add your music, please let me know. I would love to add Natalee's song to my MySpace. I have a Christian site. whisperingaprayerforyou It has about Natalee on there. Thanks again for your hard word for Beth and Natalee...
Jamie"

This person was trying to get in touch with the woman who composed 'Natalee's Song". I will e-mail them privately and see if I can help them.

Update on the postponed ship search for Natalee that TES and a private company are going to conduct. My contact at TES (one of their search coordinators) tells me, and I quote:

"Nothing earth shattering. There is some special equipment that has to
be installed on the boat and it is taking longer than expected."

No need to get into an uproar just yet.

I'm headed to Aruba for my third visit there. The people are friendly, the island is the safest place I've vacationed at outside of the country, after going to the Caribbean, Jamaica, and Mexico.

Aruba has been one of America's most important allies in the past (World War II). If it hadn't been for their oil refining capacity we couldn't have won the war. Their people are civil, their laws are just, and they can make mistakes and be just as corrupt as any politician or city in the United States.

What happened to Natalee is unfortunate, and mistakes were made, but your attempt at a boycott will really accomplish nothing but build symapthy for Venezuela by the Aruban government and people.

Natalee is gone. It is sad. My personal thoughts are that she got pulled into the South American sex trade, or went for a midnight swim and did not make it back to shore. If she did get pulled into the sex trade, with all of the attention put on her, I'm sure that the perpetrators made her disappear so that she could not be found.

Venezuela is making a huge power play in South America, and the patriotic thing is to extend the hand of friendsihp and get Aruba on our side. A boycott will just make Aruba more economically dependant on South America -- and more easily influenced by Chavez and Venezuela. There has been talk this last week of Venezuala taking Aruba (invasion). There are claims that this was a misunderstanding, but Venezuela is looking to take ownership of everything within 200 miles of its shore, for gas and petroleum reserves, and to further its conflict with the US.

Now is the time to be encouraging tourism, friendship and understanding to Aruba, not fighting them.

Trust me, I am very aware of Generalissimo Chavez's threat to the entire region. I'm sure that the 'listening post' the DEA has on Aruba is there (as opposed to Curacao or any other nearby island) for a reason.

However, the Aruban people re-elected a man who publicly bragged about his political friendship with Hugo Chavez. His foot is in the door already in Aruba- and you can't blame the boycott for that!

And that still does not change the fact that we're not obligated to vacation in Aruba, period. No matter what the situation is, no matter who is right or wrong! If Americans aren't happy, they won't go there.

In the USA a fellow can't even play toilet-time footsies without it making national news. I wonder if Aruban politicians face such censure?

Not so in Aruba. The dirty little secret there is that the ruling political party, the MEP under Nels Oduber, is propped up and supported by organized crime. And due to status aparte treaties, the Netherlands is pretty much powerless to clean the island up without basically violating said treaties.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE 'beachboys' have recanted that song where they sing about aruba.

They don't still play that in concerts i hope. If they do they shouldn't be allowed to fly the american flag.

I always did like that song though, but i hope they have denounced it.

DAN IT SEEMS LIKE THIS CASE HAS FULLY DRIED UP. IS THEIR EVEN STILL AN INVESTIGATION? HOW LONG WILL YOU KEEP UP THIS BLOG?

2:01 PM
Blogger Dan in Tx said...

A lot of people say 'Aruba was just a place in a Beach Boys song till this', so Aruba shouldn't get too prideful. Just another "banana republic" soaking up the worst criminal elements from South America.

I will keep this blog as long as there is no justice for Natalee. Even if it keeps one person away from Aruba 20 years from now (if thats how long justice takes), then it is worth it.

As for the investigation, I spoke to Dave Holloway last month. The Dutch are fully in charge of the investigation and they are not just 'reviewing the case' as the lying Arubans claim. He told me he has full confidence in the Dutch and their abilities. Unfortunately, they cannot 'redo' the many questionable things the Aruban investigators did. But it is my opinion that tying the Arubans' hands to keep them from interfering anymore is a good step in the right direction.

Just because the ratings whores aren't covering the story anymore doesn't mean that nothing is happening.

Last I talked with Dave Holloway, he told me the Dutch are still investigating, still working on the case. Not the Arubans, the DUTCH. And not the Aruban Dutch, agents from the Netherlands. Dave has full faith in their abilities, and he fully believes the hit Aruba took to tourism forced the Aruban government to turn things over to them.

So good job, boycotters! I just don't have a lot to report right now...and this does not mean we should relax our efforts. Why? Because if these Dutch investigators can't break the case, then the long-lasting damage still rests with the Aruban government and the people who re-elected that government in the middle of this scandal!

In a true democracy, the government can not be put responsible for what the judges do, isn't that true? This is specially true when it is a dutch colonised island, with dutch judges, and a dutch killer, who's father is a dutch lawyer, supported by his dutch friends and corrupt dutch government. We don't even have our own "Aruban law", it is the dutch law, that we have to abide, with some minor ammendments, done mostly to benefit the corrupt politicians. WHY does Aruba have to cover up, (if they could) for Joran? Because Pauld VDS knows dirty things about the Aruban government? Then Holland should have pressed him to speak up, have they ? Aruba does indeed have a corrupt governing party, but for the oposition, which is 29000 votes, compared to 22000 for MEP, it has only meant more taxes, and all kinds of damnation, to which you like to add an unfair boycott. But then again, it is very easy for you to blame a small island for having a corrupt government, instead of adressing the ones who are really responsible for what is happening, and that is affecting Nathalee's family, and Aruba. What about a boycott to the dutch government?

11:27 PM
Blogger Dan in Tx said...

The short answer to your question is, because the Aruban people elected- and re-elected- the MEP, not the Dutch. The Dutch and the FBI cannot do anything more in the investigation than the Aruban gov't will allow- and don't believe the lie that it is against the law! The truth is, there is nothing in Dutch or Aruban law that prohibits the ALE from turning the entire case over to the FBI, the Dutch, or Interpol!

The boycott goes on because the Aruban people chose ruling officials that refuse to do everything they can to bring resolution. When the Aruban people directly hold their government responsible and force their elected officials to do more, then it will end when the case is solved and justice served.

10:11 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dan, again you are putting the blame on all Arubans, while there are 29000 Arubans who voted against the Mep, in contrast to 22000 who voted for Mep. The government can not and did not tell the Dutch judges what to do. I would like to know why you like the Dutch government so much, so please tell me what you find so wonderful about them. And please let us also see evidence of the Aruban Prime minister bragging he has a close political friendship with Chavez.

So people, you will not allow me to post any more truths, but will allow lies like for example Dan to say that the prime minister of Aruba said publicly that he is a close political friend of Chavez. The U.S. has just sent a naval shuttle with airplanes to "train" in the Caribbean, and you guessed it, that will be anchored in Aruban territorial waters, but then again, we are big friends of Chavez, sure.

Sorry for the delay, Anonymous. It took me awhile to hunt this article down. AM Digital reported this on June 14 or June 15, 2006. To quote:

"If Holland, supported by the U.S., wish to lure Aruba in certain direction, don't forget that Venezuela and our friend Chavez are right there, declared Aruba Prime Minister Nelson Oduber."

Tomorrow I might open my own, FM digital, only this one might report truths, and will be held responsible for lies they post about political leaders of other countries, even if they are corrupt. We don't buy cheap gasoline from Venezuela just to please with the American government, that is a fact, not lies that can invented, but then again, the truth is something you guys can not deal with, if is not to your personal convenience

Dan, you coward, tell the people what you would do if it ever is proven that all this was a conspiracy against Aruba, will you just ask for people to excuse you, that you were wrong, etc? That is very easy. You say that it is impossible? So, in other words, you would bet your life on this, and commit suicide if you lose? A man is only a real man if he doesn't run and hide for the truth.......

10:48 PM
Blogger Dan in Tx said...

Wow...these latest two Anonymous comments are so stupid I don't even know where to start...

I guess the first thing I should point out about Aruba is it knows nothing about 'truth'. Almost three years after Natalee vanished, and the truth about what happened is as far away as ever. What has Aruba done to solve this? NOTHING...well, except whine and cry, lie, and toe the party line like sheep with 'MEP' branded on them! Aruba, why not ask the MEP why the FBI has NEVER been allowed any real involvement in the case? Why not ask why it took months of allegations of corruption and cover-up before untrustworthy locals like Jacobs were removed from the case? Why not ask why there has been no inquest into the conduct of Jacobs, van der Straaten, and Dompig yet?

Anonymous, anyone can point to a media source they don't like and claim that source lied...but AM Digital is on the record reporting this. If you can't trust the media, then why do Arubans swallow every lie the gov't tells them about the case and their own livelihoods hook, line, and sinker?

I don't think there's a single Aruban able to think for themselves and not just accept what their officials tell them. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, considering Arubans elect their government based on who has the prettiest parade float.

I've always wanted to help Aruba rebuild its reputation and livelihood just as I've helped destroy it once I am convinced that the Aruban gov't is not corrupt and Natalee's disappearance is solved (to the satisfaction of her family, not the Arubans). But I really don't think that is ever going to happen, and here's why. There's plenty of evidence that Aruba is just another corrupt Third World craphole. It starts with Carauna-Cuntreras and ends with Rudy Croes (or do you deny that he has taken bribes from contractors)? It is my opinion based on Aruba's past 20 years that Aruba cannot be trusted to govern itself. The Dutch need to revoke status aparte and rule Aruba with all diligence and care. Aruba can't govern itself anymore than a 5-year-old can be trusted to be home alone.

Dan, I hope you are not doing this for your personal financial benefit, and this will be my last post, since there seems to be a problem, or bug with this site, and I don't want to mess up my daughter's laptop too. As I have proved to you, with facts, not with what others have said, the Aruban PM, even though I know that he is corrupt, wouldn't have said that he has a close political friendship with Chavez. Personally I know that he was talking very badly and very unwisely against Chavez in the past. He was advised by some family of mine to stop doing this, for we are just a couple of miles away from Venezuela, and he listened and had stopped doing this. If you want my opinion on Natalee's case, you have to analyze the facts: don't you feel it is a big "COINCIDENCE" that it was the son of a dutch lawyer who got involved in this, father and son were covered up by Dutch judges, then they get video taped by an experienced Dutch criminalistic investigator, who by "COINCIDENCE" messed up this single time, despite all of his experience, and was done together with a Dutch drug convicted dealer, and both of them get lucrative amounts of money? Hasn't it crossed your mind that this could all be a conspiracy? Much before that the boycott happened, we had this incident, and I swear to God this is true, just a couple of weeks before the KLM (Dutch Airlines)said they were going to stop their major flights from the US to Aruba, we got calls from people in Holland, telling us that we had to rent them our apartments to a ridiculously low price, because, as they said, Holland would boycott us. Tell me how did they know this would happen?
